Frequently asked
When should I choose a mixed-methods design?+
When neither numbers nor narratives alone can answer your question — for example, measuring an effect quantitatively and explaining its mechanism qualitatively. The design must state why both strands are needed and how they will be integrated.
What is an explanatory sequential design?+
A two-phase design: collect and analyse quantitative data first, then use qualitative interviews to explain the statistical results in depth. The reverse order — qualitative first to build an instrument — is exploratory sequential.
